Dedicated Truck or Shared Load? The 2,000 km Maths
For a small load going a long way, booking a whole truck is the most expensive decision available to you. The arithmetic, and the exceptions.
Dehradun to Bengaluru is about as long as a domestic road move in India gets. Over that distance the small decisions compound, and the two that matter most — dedicated vehicle or shared, and how honestly the delivery date is quoted — are both made before anything is packed.
Cost
| Load | Dedicated vehicle |
|---|---|
| 1 BHK / part load | ₹27,500 – ₹48,500 |
| 2 BHK | ₹44,000 – ₹77,000 |
| 3 BHK | ₹63,000 – ₹110,000 |
| Car transport | ₹24,000 – ₹42,000 |
A shared vehicle can cut 30–50% off the smaller loads. Over 2,200 km that is not a marginal saving, it is the difference between two very different budgets.
Dedicated or shared?
Dedicated makes sense for a 3BHK or larger, or when the date is genuinely fixed. Transit 5–6 days.
Shared makes sense for a 1BHK or a part household, and when you have flexibility. Transit 8–12 days including consolidation.
The honest framing: for a small load, paying for a whole truck to travel 2,200 km mostly empty is the most expensive decision available to you.
Why the delivery date is a window
Six days of road travel crosses a dozen states, several toll and inspection points, and whatever weather and traffic happen along the way. Any mover who gives you a precise delivery hour at booking is guessing, and the guess will be wrong.
What you should get instead: a window, GPS tracking, and a proactive call if the window moves. We narrow the window as the vehicle progresses, usually to a half-day once it is inside Karnataka.
Bengaluru at the other end
- Apartment societies have strict move-in rules — gate passes, lift bookings, restricted hours, and many prohibit Sunday moves entirely
- Traffic makes precise delivery timing impossible; plan a half-day, not an hour
- Older areas like Basavanagudi and Malleshwaram have narrow streets needing a smaller vehicle for the last leg
- Newer corridors — Whitefield, Sarjapur, Electronic City — have good access but long internal distances within the layout
Preparation that pays off over this distance
- Declutter hard. At this distance you are paying meaningful money to transport anything you do not want.
- Consider selling and rebuying bulky low-value furniture. Shipping a ₹8,000 bed 2,200 km rarely makes financial sense.
- Take documents, jewellery, laptops and medicines with you. Never on the truck.
- Take declared-value insurance. Over this distance and this many handling points, basic transit cover is thin protection.
- Pack an "open first" box and carry it personally — you may arrive several days before your furniture.
